America, the new gulag?

America under the Bush regime has descended into an all time low in human rights and abuses of power.

Recently it scored sixth among non European countries in citizen privacy rights and protections and 30th overall!. More disturbing it scored lower than all but one EU nation. The top EU nation was Germany(!) and the top non-EU nation was Canada. Canada scored second overall. Only Canada and Germany scored a 'green' rating overall.
See the list here http://www.privacyinternational.org/survey/phr2005/phr2005spread.jpg
Note that the US only has a half point lead over Russia and a 0.6 point lead on China. Nothing to be proud of.

Maybe after the US descends into it's own fascist nightmare it will learn the same lessons that Germany apparently did after it's fascist experiment.

The video link is a video taken by a student in the UCLA library. A middle eastern student was reading with several other dozen students in the library. He was singled out and demanded to produce ID. The campus police tazered him multiple times for failing to produce ID and not wanting to leave.

The mainstream media refuses to cover the amount, and depth of abuse of the citizenry in the name of "national security" and "anti-terrorism", but even a simple google search will lead you to enough incidents to make you sick. From the dozens of detention camps, inside the US, to the abuse of police powers, to the frivolous overuse of the charge of terrorism (see the lawnmower neighbor in a previous post) and the removal of habaeus corpus, a cornerstone of civilization and justice.

Never mind God Bless America. God Help America!

Dubai's Emirates airline first to allow mobile calls in flight - Engadget

If this is the first, it makes me wonder if the conspiracy theorists have a point. How DID the people on flight 93 supposedly make those cell phone calls? It's already been pointed out (and proven in demonstrations) that a cell phone won't work in a moving airliner without a repeater system like is only now being deployed like this one.

OK America....

Well, here's your test. Let's review. Lying, bribe taking, vote selling, treason. That's just a sampling of the things the Republicans have been caught at. Yet some of you will still vote for them today. You'll vote for stupid, ignorant or treasonous reasons. You'll become the lowest form of anti-democratic traitor, the one issue voter.
You'll vote on issues like abortion that really have nothing to do with these midterm elections. You'll vote for people that claim to support your position on these issues, even though they have blatantly lied about that position just to get your vote. Don't believe me? Let's go back to the abortion issue. Given that most of you have no idea how your own government even works, let's review. At this point, abortion is law. There are only two groups that can do anything about it. Those groups are Congress, and the Supreme Court. Now keep in mind that the Congress has been a Republican majority since the last elections and they've done nothing. Now right now you're thinking something stupid like "But those darn Democrats have/would have stopped them if/when they tried to change the law". Well, they'd have had to actually try to change it to be stopped. Go try and find a Bill proposing such a change. Had they even tried it would have been the biggest news story on the air. They'd have been fighting over it tooth and nail. But there has not been any stand or effort by the Republican party to ban abortion. Yet they all campaign heavily on this issue.
OK, so what about the Supreme Court. Well, quite simply, this President and his father nominated the majority of the current court. Yet none of them have taken any stand on Abortion. In fact BOTH of George W's two nominees clearly stated that they consider Roe V. Wade to be the law of the land and that they have no intention to challenge it.
What you do have is a party, led by a President who stated clearly, and on video, that he would run, and win the Presidency by courting Christian Conservatives. He and Karl Rove discussed this on tape during a documentary about the Senior Bush's last (losing) campaign as they analyzed the election results and were surprised by the voter response to Pat Buchanon. They then, and there, and on tape, formed a plan to court the Conservative Christian vote. Then, suddenly, magically, this fornicating (his admission), cocaine snorting, drunk suddenly became a religious conservative from Texas. Never mind that he and his family are really from the same crowd as the Kennedy's and John Kerry. That's right. They are from that same Massachusetts yacht club crowd. Look it up. They chose to ride the Conservative, anti-Liberal backlash that started in the Reagan years. It's all fake.
More confirmation came of this by Whitehouse insiders like David Kuo who confirmed that to this administration, Christian Conservatives are nothing more than another demographic to be courted.
However this Republican party of liars and hypocrites is constantly getting caught behaving in ways that show their true morals. Vote selling, bribes, money crimes, sex scandals, homosexuality, drugs, even treason (see the Plame story).
Yet despite all this, you'll vote for them. Despite the fact that they have done more to destroy the American way of life than any terrorist. You'll vote for them. I hope you are ashamed of yourself.

*Note: Does this mean I think you should vote Democrat? No, not necessarily. I mean you should vote for individuals, based on their platform and their record of sticking to it. You should vote out incumbents. You should vote for worthy independants. In short, you should vote like an American. Not a Benedict Arnold.
